Unlike traditional silver fillings which are created from an amalgam of metals, White Fillings are made from a durable, composite material that includes acrylic resin and powdered glass particles.
White Fillings are very effective and durable, though they are not as strong and hard-wearing as metal fillings and more care should be taken to protect them. Your dentist may well recommend that metal fillings are used where more durability is needed, such as the the chewing surfaces of teeth at the back of the mouth.
Before treatment begins, the area surrounding the affected tooth will be numbed using a local anaesthetic. The dentist will then clean and prepare the tooth, removing any decay or previous filling material. The cavity is filled using the tooth coloured composite resin material, which is hardened under UV light and polished for the final result.
